IOIG 2015: Team Seychelles is ready!

Victoria, 24th July 2015: Team Seychelles is ready to do its utmost best at the Indian Ocean Island Games. With 9 days to go before the 9th Indian Ocean Island Games start in Reunion, Team Seychelles held their last gathering at the International Conference Centre. Further to the agreement signed between the Bank’s Managing Director, Bernard Jackson, and the CEO of the National Sports Council, Giovanna Rousseau, on 12th June, making MCB the Official Partner of Team Seychelles, the athletes were also presented with their official sports gear yesterday, in presence of President James Michel.

Aiming high
In 2015, Team Seychelles intends to do even better than 2011, where the athletes recorded their best ever performance since the inception of the Games, with an impressive haul of 127 medals. Seychelles came second in the overall table then, with only one gold medal less than winners Réunion. In spite of the daunting challenge this year, Team Seychelles is ready.

Unite the Indian Ocean
As Official Partner, MCB salutes the country’s top athletes for their sustained efforts and wishes to boost the chances of Team Seychelles of flying high the national flag in Reunion. It is reaffirming its commitment to the promotion of sports in Seychelles. It also motivating the local population, and especially the younger generations, to practice sports even more. MCB has been a staunch supporter of the Indian Ocean Island Games for more than 30 years and will be the top sponsor of the 2015 edition. This partnership is sensible as the Games are the most prominent sports event in a region where MCB is the leading banking and financial services provider. Each edition is a special occasion as it helps to unite the people of the Indian Ocean islands (around 25 million inhabitants in 2015). It gives the region’s youth a platform to express itself and showcase its abilities while providing emotional rollercoaster rides to the population of every participating country.

Bernard Jackson, Managing Director of MCB in Seychelles: “We are proud to give our support to Team Seychelles and believe that athletes will demonstrate once again that country size does not matter in the events. Ale Sesel!”
